Dear Council and Mayor,
I am enclosing the annual report of the Waterloo Public Library for Fiscal
Year 2011. The report contains statistics measuring use of library
resources, including materials, staff time, and the building itself.

This year the Library is working on a strategic plan to guide us in serving
the citizens of Waterloo. Based on community feedback and statistics,
our primary roles are:
• Stimulate Imagination: Reading,Viewing and Listening for
W ATER LOO = Pleasure (Reading/Viewing/Listening Materials for
PJ 3 L i C Entertainment)
L I B R A R Y
• Visit a Comfortable Place: Physical and Virtual Spaces (A safe
place to study, work and socialize)
• Connect to the Online World: Public Internet Access (Free
access to computers and the Internet)

We are now in the process of realigning our resources to ensure that we
fulfill these roles.

Our staff completed an RFID conversion in 2011. Using grant and CIP
money, our entire collection is now managed with small computer tags.
w We have new selfcheckout machines, and an automated selfcheckin
ti machine for patrons. I hope you stop by to see it if you have not
already.
