opening balance of $12,302.83. The following invoices were presented for payment.
Black Hawk Memorial Co. (Engraving of 19 bricks)

$583.15
Moved by J. Wittwer, seconded by J. Mrzlak, that the invoices as presented, except for Modern
Painting in the amount of $583.15, be approved. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried
Craig White stated that he would approach the Mayor to discuss the railing and paint projects
and seek reimbursement for the cost of the handrails and request the painting project be covered
by the city's building maintenance budget.
Marcia Courbat commented that the cost of the railing and painting should be the responsibility
of building maintenance and covered by the city. She further commented that these expenditures
will leave the brick fund very low and brick orders are down. She intends to mail information on
how to order bricks to all the various leagues in an effort to increase brick sales.
Craig White mentioned that he will be speaking with Tim Jamison at the Courier about an article
on Veterans, and will have him include information about how to order bricks. He further
mentioned that monies will be available following the raffle of the televisions on Memorial Day.
He will get rolls of tickets which will be available at the next meeting.
Chairperson's Report

Dick Hastings showed the commission members the display cases with the improved lighting
and glass shelving.
Education/Historical — Chairperson Randall Miller
None. (Randy Miller was Absent)
November 28, 2018 Page 2
Jim Lentfer mentioned that he witnessed the tattered condition of many of the flags around the
city and that it may be necessary to purchase new flags and poles next year.
Craig White mentioned he would look into getting new flags at a good price.
A discussion took place regarding the possibility of having a local sewing or saddle shop add
extra stitching around the flags for reinforcement.
Finance/Fundraising — Chairperson Marcia Courbat
Marcia Courbat commented that the application to request funds from the Isle was given to
Nancy Higby at the last meeting.
Mel Wittwer questioned that application and stated it appeared to be a request to fund a
particular event, not for grant monies. Mel will seek clarification from the Isle on the process to
request grant funding.
Marcia Courbat questioned if hotel/motel tax funds could be obtained for flag purchases.
Artifacts Preservation — Chairperson Mel Wittwer
Mel Wittwer commented that he is working on completing the labeling for the artifact room.
Unfinished Business
None.
New Business
Moved by J. Mrzlak, seconded by McDonald, to cancel the December meeting. Ayes: Ten.
Motion carried.

December 31st, beginning at 7:00 p.m. including free admission and raffles.
With no further business before the commission, it was moved by McDonald, seconded by J.
Mrzlak, that the meeting be adjourned at 5:45 p.m. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried.

Subject: Dick Hastings
Hi Craig,
I would hope that this is not news to you, but I was informed that Dick Hasting intends to resign his seat at Memorial
Hall on Wednesday night. I think it would be a good idea to start a dialogue during the meeting for his replacement for
the Building & Grounds Committee, as well as collect his keys. They'll need to go back to the building department for
tracking purposes. A new set of keys will be issued to his replacement.
In addition, I found that the following appointments have either already expired or will expire soon. I checked with the
Mayor's office to see what they might have on file as far as applications, as it feels like we just went through this a short
while ago. I was told that they have one pending application (Scott McDonald). All others will need to renew. I'll bring
plenty of applications with me Wednesday.
Expiring December 31, 2018

• James Lender ✓
• John Mrzlak '/
• Scott McDonald ¥ Not sure why this didn't get before council already, but Mayor's secretary will have it
on the agenda for October 1, 2018.
Mayor's office did also provide me with an application for an Angela Hickok s an alternate for Rolling Thunder. It also
did not make it to council. We should find out if Angela is still interested in serving.
Thanks Craig. See you Wednesday night.
