HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes-08/26/2020 MEMORIAL HALL COMMISSION August 26, 2020 5:00 p.m. Veterans Memorial Hall Members present: Craig White in the Chair, Scott McDonald, Mel Wittwer, Mike Mrzlak, James Lentfer and John Mrzlak(A) Absent: Randy Miller, Rodney Butz, Marcia Courbat, Don Ticknor and Marilyn Robinson, Frank McCaw and Angela Hickok(A). Also in Attendance: Richard Hurtado Moved by J. Mrzlak, seconded by McDonald, that the Agenda be approved. Ayes: Six. Motion carried. Moved by J. Mrzlak, seconded by M. Wittwer, that the Minutes of July 22, 2020, as presented, be approved. Ayes: Six. Motion carried. Citizen's Oral Comments Rick Hurtado suggested a minor alteration to the flags that might keep them from getting flipped and tangled. He explained that one flag on W. 5th Street, closest to the bridge, has had this alteration and time will tell if this will help extend the life of the flags. He also shared a nicely framed Women's Army Auxiliary Corp recruiting poster along with an account of its history, also framed. He explained that the set would be available for display by any veteran organization upon request. The poster was made possible by H&H Foundation, Marilyn Ganrude Hayes, and Rick Hurtado, in recognition of all veterans. Treasurer's Report—Marcia Courbat was absent. Craig White read the fund balances as of August 19, 2020. Two bricks were purchased at $50 each,bringing the brick fund to $7,054.94. The balance in the Flag Fund stands at $994.15. Chairperson's Report Craig White provided a brief overview of the upcoming Vietnam Vigil scheduled for September 11-13, 2020. He explained that volunteers are still needed for 3-hour increments and reminded everyone that flags from the Field of Honor are still available for purchase at $40 per flag. Committee Reports Building, Grounds & Operations—Chairperson Mel Wittwer Mel reported that he, Mike and Jim painted the front steps. Mel reported that an order for three additional bricks was received. Craig White also received a brick order. The checks totaling $200 were given to Nancy Higby for processing. Jim Lentfer questioned if mail cubby boxes could be added for the various groups that meet at Memorial Hall. Craig White recommended waiting until Covid-19 settles down before a decision will be made on the issue. Education/Historical—Chairperson Randall Miller - Absent. Finance/Fundraising—Chairperson Marcia Courbat-Absent. Artifacts Preservation—Chairperson James Lentfer-No report. Unfinished Business August 26, 2020 Page 2 Jim Lentfer explained that last month he brought up the need to update the By-Laws, but noted that he mean to say Operating Procedures. After some discussion, it was decided that the discussion would be added as New Business to next month's agenda. Nancy Higby will email the document to the commission for their review and comment prior to next month. New Business None. With no further business before the commission, it was moved by J.
