J RESOLUTION NO. 2006-391 J c'` ^�' RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE WEEK_ OF MAY 14, 2 2006 AS NATIONAL POLICE WEEK AND MAY 16, 2006 - AS PEACE OFFICER' S MEMORIAL DAY AND v AUTHORIZING THAT FLAGS ON ALL CITY FACILITIES E ` BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF ON PEACE OFFICER' S • J - MEMORIAL DAY. J ,,- �WREAS, the Congress of the United States of America has 7 de it*haaed the week of May 14, 2006 to be dedicated as "National ;; Poli:ce- Week" and May 16, 2006 of this year to be "Peace Officer' s Megc± Day", and ;Z, =T WHEREAS, the Law Enforcement Officers are our guardians of li and property, defenders of the individual right to be free men alp women, warriors in the war against crime and dedicated to the preservation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, an21 5 WHEREAS, it is known that Police Officers are killed in the lifef duty nationwide all too often. Our community joins with of'Rer scities and towns to honor all Peace Officers everywhere, an < NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the week of May 14 to May 20, 2006 is proclaimed to be "National Police Week" and call upon all our citizens in this community to especially honor and show our sincere appreciation for the Police Officers of this city by deed, remark, and attitude. I call upon all our citizens to make every effort to express their thanks to our men and women who make it possible for us to leave our homes and family in safety each day and to return to our homes knowing we are protected by men and women willing to sacrifice their lives, if necessary, to guard our loved ones, property and government against all who would violate the law. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that flags on all city facilities be flown at half-staff on Peace Officer' s Memorial Day.
