j RESOLUTION DESIGNATING NATIONAL LEAD
s POISONING PREVENTION WEEK IN THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA.
WHEREAS, the week of October 23-29, 2005 has been designated
-as National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week in Waterloo, Iowa, to
• highlight the importance of preventing Childhood Lead Poisoning
"' and increase awareness at the local level, in conjunction with a
c rational campaign to "Put A Lid On Lead, " and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo Community Development
ru ADepartment is a current recipient of and administers the Healthy
Homes and Lead Hazard Program Grant, to aid in the reduction of
-lead-based paint hazards by assisting families in the target area
:Who are at or below 80 percent of the median income, or families
city wide at 50 percent of the median income, and
} WHEREAS, grant proceeds provide continued screening of
children for elevated blood lead levels, and community support and
-assistance to neighborhood associations with 51 percent low-to
moderate-income families, and
WHEREAS, additional training is provided for lead abatement
.workers and contractors to be certified in Lead Safe Work
-Practices .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA, that in this community and in communities
throughout the nation, a strong network of relationships are
developing between local government, nonprofit agencies, the
private and public sectors to help prevent childhood lead
poisoning.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Waterloo, Iowa
Community Development Department is committed to the people who
live in its lower income neighborhoods and will continue their
efforts to "Put a Lid on Lead" !
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 24th day of October, 2005 .
