O �+ f EWHEREAS, the City of Waterloo is interested in the economic
redevelopment of brownfields throughout the City, and

El :-.TINHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has
ri.
provided initiatives to prevent, assess, educate and develop
plans for the cleanup and sustainable reuse of brownfields, and
WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency is offering
Brownfields Assessment Grants to assist communities in assessing
brownfields and developing a sustainable reuse plan, and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo, as a General Purpose Unit of
Local Government defined under 40 CFR Part 31, is an entity
eligible to receive funds under the new Brownfields Grant
Programs (developed as a result of the new Small Business
Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act, P.L. 107-
118) , and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo, therefore, desires to apply
for a U. S . Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields
Assessment Grant for proposed assessment activities at the
former Chamberlain Manufacturing Site .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Environmental Protection Agency
Application for Brownfields Assessment Assistance in the amount
of $300 , 000 . 00 as referred to in the preamble hereof be and the
same is hereby approved as to form and content .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that city staff is hereby
authorized and directed to submit such application to the U. S .
Environmental Protection Agency for and on behalf of the City of
Waterloo.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 17th day of March, 2003 .
