HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-524-08.04.2003 tx H tr7 O L + t sM o 04is Resolution prepared by Nancy Eckert, City Clerk, 715 Mulberry t,S,reet, Waterloo, Iowa. o s RESOLUTION NO. 2003-524 O CD tri RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EXPANSION OF THE WATERLOO CENTER FOR THE ARTS. o tri E+ o trirl WHEREAS, cultural activities attract tourists, spur the v rncreation of ancillary facilities such as restaurants, hotels and se services needed to support them, enhance property values, cl3 a Htax resources and overall profitability for communities, and o WHEREAS, the arts are a direct contributor to urban 'revitalization, and WHEREAS, the arts are central to the economic growth and vitality of communities around the world, and WHEREAS, the Nonprofit Arts were a $134 billion dollar industry last year, and WHEREAS, the arts foster beauty, creativity, originality and vitality, inspire us, sooth us, provoke us, involve us and connect us, and WHEREAS, the arts create jobs and significantly contribute to the community' s economy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Council supports the expansion of the Waterloo Center for the Arts, which will be the cornerstone of the Riverfront Renaissance development . The Council recognizes that the Youth Pavilion expansion will impact the cultural and arts general fund requests in the Center for the Arts' budgetary operations through additional staffing and operating expenses and will review requested operating expenses and increase in staff through the normal budget process. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, commits to the Youth Pavilion expansion and encourages the Cultural and Arts Commission to complete their capital campaign and to be prepared to break ground in coordination with the Riverfront Renaissance development project.
