U RESOLUTION DEVELOPING A SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP WITH
• TARGOVISHTE, BULGARIA.

x WHEREAS, last year Mayor Rooff visited Bulgaria from where
' his family originated; and

-- WHEREAS, during his visit he developed a relationship with
"'Krasimir Mirev, M.D. , Mayor of Targovishte, a city of
substantial similarity to Waterloo, Iowa, in many ways including
its economic base, population size, and agricultural interests;
and
WHEREAS, Mayor Mirev has requested that Waterloo consider
developing a sister city relationship with Targovishte,
Bulgaria, thereby exchanging cultural, educational, and
commercial ideas and endeavors for the long-term mutual benefit
of both cities .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Waterloo, Iowa, that:
Waterloo embraces Mayor Mirev' s request and shall endeavor
to develop a sister city relationship with Targovishte,
Bulgaria, and looks forward to exchanging cultural, educational,
and commercial ideas .
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council this 16th day of
September, 2002 .
