Ward I Dear Council:
SCOTT
JORDAN Please consider this letter as your notice that I am exercising my veto power under
Ward 2 Iowa Code §380.5 with regard to the budget resolution(15%) passed at the
JERRY council meeting last night.
ANDERS
Ward 3 My reasons for this veto are as stated at the meeting. I believe that the modest
levy rate increase I proposed, while not as much as the majority felt was needed
BERRY DEBORAH L. would haveprotected essential cityprograms. I agree that we faced extraordinary
BERRY p g g arY
Ward 4 circumstances this year(gasoline price increases, energy increases, state pension
and health insurance increases, etc.), but I believe we need to try to get along with
BARB a lower increase than was passed.

Ward 5
I hope we can discuss alternatives today. If no budget resolution is successfully
WILLIAM W. passed (and delivered to Des Moines by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday), then we cannot
CRONEN;,D.P.M. spend any more than our current year budget allows in the next fiscal year. This
At LaavP would leave us with no alternatives.

GETTY In the hope that we can do better I have scheduled a city council meeting for
At-Large Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
