WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo is interested in the economic
` redevelopment of brownfields in the "Rath Brownfield" area, and
r= WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has
provided initiatives to prevent, assess, educate and develop
plans for the cleanup and sustainable reuse of brownfields, and
WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency is offering
Brownfields Supplemental Assistance to assist communities in
assessing brownfields and developing a sustainable reuse plan,
and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo is an entity eligible to
receive funds under CERCLA Section 104 (d) , has the authority to
enter into an agreement with the U.S . Environmental Protection
Agency, and has the authority to carry out the work included in
the application, and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo, therefore, desires to apply
for the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency Supplemental
Assistance Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Environmental Protection Agency
Application for Brownfields Supplemental Assistance in the
amount of $200, 000. 00 as referred to in the preamble hereof be
and the same is hereby approved as to form and content .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that city staff is hereby
authorized and directed to submit such application to the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency for and on behalf of the City of
Waterloo.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of November, 2001 .
