RESOLUTION NO. 2000-129
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA, DECLARING ITS INTENT OF
SUPPORTING THE SUBMISSION TO THE VOTERS OF
THE CITY OF JANESVILLE, THAT PART WHICH LIES
IN BLACK HAWK COUNTY, THE PROPOSITION OF
IMPOSITION OF A LOCAL SALES AND SERVICE TAX
AT THE RATE OF ONE PERCENT (1%) .
WHEREAS, Chapter 422B of the Iowa Code authorizes the
imposition of certain local option taxes after an election in
which the majority of the electors vote in the affirmative, and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville, that part which lies in
Black Hawk County, has asked the City of Waterloo to request of
the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors that a one percent
(1%) sales and service tax be placed on the ballot, and
WHEREAS, a special election was held on February 29, 2000,
for all voters of Black Hawk County calling for the imposition of
a local sales and service tax at the rate of one percent (1%) to
be effective on January 1, 2001, and
WHEREAS, said election was passed in all jurisdictions in
Black Hawk County except the City of Janesville, that part which
lies in Black Hawk County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA:
Section 1 . That the City Council of the City of Waterloo,
Iowa, declares its intent of supporting the submission to the
voters of the City of Janesville, that part which lies in Black
Hawk County, the proposition of imposition of a local sales and
service tax at the rate of one percent (1%) .
Section 2 . That revenues from the sales and service tax are
to be allocated for any lawful purpose in accordance with Chapter
422B of the Iowa Code, including, but not limited to: property
tax relief, capital equipment purchases and capital improvement
and maintenance projects .
Section 3 . That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and
directed to provide a certified copy of this resolution to the
County Commissioner of Elections of Black Hawk County and to the
Board of Supervisors of Black Hawk County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 13th day of March 2000 .
