Subject: Points of discussion for VMH
Craig & Nancy,
A few items concerning my meeting with city CPA/CFO Weidner July 20th
A) Donations to Veterans Memorial Hall (as a function of the city of Waterloo) ARE tax deductible and do not require a
receipt. Donations over(2000 ?) however con be receipted by the city for tax purposes.
B) Selling of items in the artifact inventory [with commission approval] will be taken in consideration. "but seems
unlikely to be city authorized" (even though it is written in our Operation Procedure)
C) Exchange of monies (ie: Walk-a-thon) and free will donations (accumulated via sponsored VMH open house) should
be counted by 2 Commissioners before receipted to the city. (please allow discussion time on this topic for the July 28th
Commission meting)
D) I also requested Mrs Weidner to take under advisement to authorize a liaison from WPL to participate in our monthly
Artifact Committee Meeting. This will facilitate the process of digitizing our inventory of books and enhance an
appropriate resolution to the "Red Rot problem" plaguing the VMH library. (anticipate a motion)
E) I know you (Mel & Randy) asked me to keep it simple. However I did give CFO Weidner an in depth history of how the
flags (Memorial Day& Downtown) DEVOLVED to where it is at today. Hopefully it will be some help to Randy"passing
the torch" for the downtown flags.
PS: anticipate another E-mail concerning an up coming open house plan for Veterans Memorial Hall.
Respectfully,Jim
