Objective: Discussion of fiber to the home design project. Andrew Van Fleet. Chair of the Waterloo Telecommunications Board, introduced the team members and acknowledged the hard work that goes into a project like this. Courtney Violette, Chief Operating Offi- cer, Magellan Advisors, provided an update on the initial phase of city's fiber optic backbone portion of the project. He explained that approximately 60 percent of the backbone design is complete and anticipates that the entire backbone design to be substantially complete by January or February of next year. He also commented on the proposed fiber to the home project and provided an overview of what that project would look like_ MayorHart thanked those at Magellan for their leadership and the Telecommunica- tion Board team for all of their hard work in helping move this project forward. Objective: Operations update from Build- ing Department and Community Develop- ment. Greg Ahlelm, Building Official, provided an overview of Building Department operations. Council members and Mayor Hart dis- cussed Building Department operations with Mr. Ahlhelm. Rudy Jones, Community Development Director, provided an overview of Com- munity Development department opera- tions. Council members and Mayor Hart dis- cussed Community Development opera- tions with Mr. Jones. Objective: Discussion of downtown Veter- ans Way project. Mayor Hart provided an overview of the Veterans Way Project. He shared details of the project, which include lighting, education, streetscaping, and public art al the Pocket Park on Commercial Street, Sullivan Brothers Memorial Plaza. lighting on the Cedar River, Living Lamps project at the 4th Street Underpass, and Sullivan Memorial Park.
