Subject:Letting for Rock Salt
Please forward this document to the person that orders the above listed commodities.
The Iowa Department of Transportation will be soliciting bids for Rock Salt for fiscal year 2007, 2008,&2009(July 1,-
June 30);projected letting date is May 10, 2006.
Please provide your salt quantities for years 1,2 and 3.The Iowa DOT may opt to contract salt with each vendor for as many
as 3 fiscal years.As in the past, Contract terms will still include the 80%- 120%clause by twelve-month increments.This
obligates the customer,(Political Subdivision)to purchase 80%of the contracted tonnage for each twelve-month period and
obligates the vendor to supply up to 120%of the estimated tonnage.The Iowa Department of Transportation Office of
Procurement and Distribution,Purchasing Section will be sending bid tabulation to all political subdivisions that submit
quantities.Vendor contract information will be provided with the bid tabulation.Political Subdivisions shall order directly
from the awarded vendor.
Political Subdivisions have the option to contract directly with salt vendors if they so choose.The Iowa DOT accepts no
responsibility for any contract negotiations agreed upon by a Political Subdivision and the salt vendor.
If you purchased small quantities of Rock Salt from an Iowa DOT Maintenance Garage in 2005-2006 and would like to do
so again this year,please contact that garage to make arrangements for your needs.
