AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ELECTRICAL ORDINANCE, NO. 2071 , OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, BY
REPEALING SECTION 204, BOARD OF APPEALS AND EXAMINERS, AND
ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION 204, BOARD OF APPEALS
AND EXAMINERS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA,
as follows:
That Section 204, Board of Appeals and Examiners, of the
Electrical Ordinance, No. 2071, is hereby repealed in its
entirety; that a new Section 204, Board of Appeals and Examiners ,
of the Electrical Ordinance, No. 2071 , is hereby enacted in lieu
thereof as follows:
SECTION 204. Board of Appeals and Examiners
(a) This Board of five ( 5) members shall be appointed by the
Mayor and approved by the City Council. All members are appointed
for a period of three ( 3 ) year terms. Any member of this Board
can be removed for a good cause and majority vote of City Council.
(b) Organization of Board of Appeals and Examiners. This
said Board shall consist of one Architect or Electrical Engineer,
one Utility Employee, two Electrical contractors, and one from the
Electrical Industry. This said Board shall elect a Chairman and
Secretary.
(c) Duties of Board. It shall be the duty of said Board of
Electrical Examiners to meet on the first Tuesday of every three
months, or at the call of the Inspector, and to give such
examinations, either oral or written, as will thoroughly test the
ability and qualifications of all person applying for any license,
and shall have authority to establish reasonable rules for giving
and grading such examinations. Said Board shall, within ten days,
report in writing to the applicant, the result of the examination,
together with their recommendation, as to the issuance or denial
of the license. When examinations have been approved by the Board
of Electrical Examiners, a license shall then be issued by the o
Electrical Inspector.

(d) Right of Appeal. Any person shall have the right to
appeal any decision of the Electrical Inspector to the Board of 27
Appeals and Examiners by filing a written notice of such appeal o
with the Electrical Inspector within ten ( 10 ) days from the date
of his ruling. The Board of Appeals and Examiners shall forthwith
fix a time and place of hearing for such appeal which shall not be
less than five ( 5 ) days nor more than fifteen ( 15 ) days after the
date of filing of the notice of such appeal, and the Electrical
Inspector shall notify the interested person in writing by
registered mail of the time and place of such hearing. After the
hearing on said appeal, the Board of Appeals and Examiners may
sustain or overrule the ruling of the Electrical Inspector.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of
Waterloo, Iowa, on the 28th day of March, 1988 , and approved by
the Mayor on the 30th day of March, 1988 .
