Members absent: Hart. Moved by Reggie Schmitt, seconded by Greenwood that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six. Absent: Hart. Motion carried. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2009. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, January 12, 2009 and the following items were reviewed. Councilperson Getty questioned the request of John Deere Waterloo Works to extend the original date of closing of River Road from Commercial Street in a northwesterly direction to Conger Street from November 15, 2008 to April 15 2009 as part of maintenance and resurfacing of the bridge over Black Hawk Creek and construction of a new internal road at the Westfield Avenue site. Councilperson Getty explained that he received phone calls asking why River Road is still closed when Deere is not working on the road at this time, and the council already extended the date to January 18, 2009. Councilperson Steve Schmitt noted that he also received calls from businesses about the road closure. Police Chief Tom Jennings stated that the road is closed for safety issues as Deere needs to move equipment. Chief Jennings noted that he talked with John Deere about a couple of options. Chief Jennings stated he does not feel its safe to open one lane, the project has taken longer than planned and the project has been expanded. Councilperson Reggie Schmitt stated that they are ready to pour the cement and are waiting for the weather to improve. Councilperson Reggie Schmitt noted that the bike trail along that road makes it too narrow for one lane. Councilperson Reggie Schmitt noted that a lot of people are using Westfield during the closure of River Road, Fire Chief Doug Carter noted that John Deere is maintaining the entrance to River Road for emergency vehicles. Mayor Hurley will contact Jeff Kutz to attend the January 12, 2009 council meeting. Councilperson Greenwood questioned the beer/liquor license for Eagles After Hours. Chief Jennings explained that they now want to operate under a state liquor license. The application is for six months. Chief Jennings noted that the police department is going to meet with the owner of the business prior to Monday's meeting. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Cole, seconded by Reggie Schmitt that the meeting be adjourned at 8:17 a.m. Ayes: six ,Absent: Hart. Motion carried.
