HomeMy WebLinkAbout01.29.2009• o COUNCIL WORK SESSION January 29, 2009 8:00 a.m. Council Chambers Members present: Mayor Hurley, Getty, Hart, Greenwood, Steve Schmitt, Welper, Reggie Schmitt. Members absent: Cole. Moved by Reggie Schmitt, seconded by Hart that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Five. Absent: Greenwood, Cole. Motion carried. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings scheduled for Monday, February 2, 2009. Greenwood now present at 8:02 a.m. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, February 2, 2009 and the following items were reviewed. Paul Huting, Leisure Services Director, explained that the 2009 Riverfront Grandstand Structural Repairs project is not part of the project funded with Black Hawk County Gaming money. This project involves the structural damage to the walls in the old locker room. The project will funded with bond money. Councilperson Greenwood asked if there are mitigation plans for Riverfront Stadium. Mr. Huting replied that he and Eric Thorson are working with FEMA for a remediation plan. Eric Thorson, City Engineer, noted that because Riverfront Stadium is located in the flood plain, the Army Corp of Engineers is also involved in the remediation plan. Noel Anderson, Community Planning & Development Director, explained the cleanup at the former CMC site at 625 Glenwood Street. The original plan for this site was to remove all contaminated area. The change order is for Howard R. Green to perform extra survey of the site and show the easement on the environmental area of the property. Councilperson Greenwood inquired if council could pass a resolution showing displeasure of the trains stopping in front of major businesses. Mayor Hurley replied that he has done legal research on the train issue. There is nothing in our ordinance which would prohibit trains from stopping on the crosswalks. Mayor Hurley stated he has a call into the president of the company and would like to first try that route. If council wants resolution of displeasure they should work on the wording. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Reggie Schmitt, seconded by Getty that the meeting be adjourned at 8:11 a.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Greenwood. Motion carried.
