Moved by Reggie Schmitt, seconded by Steve Schmitt that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Tuesday, May 26, 2009 and the following items were discussed. Mayor Hurley noted that he wants to perform the swearing -in of Police Officer Kenneth Schaaf before the presentation by Robert Kipp. Mayor Hurley noted that the Irish Fest request is in for street closures and he's discussing with public safety and Irish Fest people to see if they can get things smoothed out. Mayor Hurley noted that he's looking to put it on the Council agenda for either May 26, 2009 or June 1, 2009. Steve Decker, Superintendent of Street Department, explained that he just received the information on Tuesday from the Iowa Department of Transportation through the bid process, and they gave the City three days, which is by the end of this week, to accept or reject the bids for salt for the FY2010 Snow and Ice Control Program. Mr. Decker explained the letter states the bid is for $479,179 for 7,100 tons of salt, but the City's bid proposal was for 6,000 tons, so our total price is going to be $404,940. Mr. Decker explained that the price is $67.49 per ton up to 7,100 tons. Mr. Decker explained that Cargill Salt has the low bid this year of $67.49 per ton, with the cost being $1.75 per ton cheaper than last year. Mr. Decker noted that last year we got the salt from North American Salt. Mayor Hurley stated that Mr. Decker has the Council's consent to accept the low bid and they will cover it formally at the meeting on Tuesday. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Cole, seconded by Reggie Schmitt that the meeting be adjourned at 8:12 a.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
