Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee for meetings scheduled for Monday,
August 17, 2009. Mayor Hurley noted that the council work session is to discuss polices and
procedures for application for discretionary hotel/motel funds. Mayor Hurley will provide in the
councils' packets a history of disbursements and a copy of the Convention & Visitors Bureau's
process.
Hart now present at 8:05 a.m.
Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, October 17, 2009 and the
following items were discussed.
Brad Hagen, Airport Director, reported that the emergency repairs to replace sidewall hangar
sections and roof repairs are emergency repairs due to damage caused by the windstorm.
Councilperson Steve Schmitt stated he was at the airport and it appears there is a house on the
northeast portion with broken windows and the roof damaged by the storm. Mr. Hagen
responded that there was just slight damage from hail on the siding. Mr. Hagen explained that
for the past 30 years the airport directors have lived in that home and very little has been done to
upkeep the home.
Councilperson Steve Schmitt asked with the budget shortfall would the Building Official
replacement be a logical position not to fill. Mayor Hurley responded he feels that would be
illogical as that position oversees code enforcement, building administration and inspection, and
that we will be advertising for a person to do what Lou Cutwright currently does.
Mayor Hurley explained that to help with the budget shortfall, the mayor's secretary will not be
filled immediately when Donna Cutler retires, some forestry position will not be replaced, and
we are trying to balance police replacements. Mayor Hurley stated he will approve the 30 hour
position at the library because of the funding source for that position. Mayor Hurley noted that
Mr. Cutwright was given permission to hire a Chief Electrical Inspector position after he
identified funds in his budget prior to the current projected 1 percent reduction. Mayor Hurley
noted that Bob Walker's position will not be filled when he retires.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Welper, seconded by Reggie
Schmitt that the meeting be adjourned at 8:14 a.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Cole. Motion carried.
