Mayor Pro Tem Reggie Schmitt reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings scheduled for Monday, December 7, 2009. Mayor Pro Tem Reggie Schmitt reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, December 7, 2009 and the following items were discussed. Councilperson Getty stated that on Monday, November 30, 2009 he received a letter from Cheryl Huddleston from Human Resources to come over to City Hall for a meeting at 9:30 a.m. to ask questions and so forth to see who our finalists were for the City Clerk's position. He stated he got there at 9:20 a.m. and he ran into Mayor Hurley and told him what he was there for and the Mayor said that they were doing the interviews in the conference room. So he stated he went there and Ron was there and also Cheryl Huddleston, Michelle Weidner, Nancy Eckert and the candidate. He stated he was informed that he was at the wrong meeting and that his meeting was to start at 9:30 a.m. in the Clerk's office. He stated he sat across the hall for 20 minutes and nobody showed up. He stated he had other things to do so he left. He stated that after he got home, he was sitting there thinking about the many horror stories that all of us in the council have heard about city inspectors, about police not doing this, this happened and that happened with our staff, and he got thinking about it and that we've got two elected officials sitting in there and there is nothing that he could say or do. He stated there is nothing that he can do to the two staff people that were in there. He stated that there are two council representatives sitting in this room for over 20 minutes and nobody had the decency to send over a note to the Mayor's secretary and say that due to a timing schedule, we are going to be 15 to 20 minutes late. He stated that didn't happen. He thought that if they do that to elected officials, then what the hell are they doing to the general public. He stated he wasn't treated right and that it's a crying shame that this had to happen. He stated he's really concerned, and that he'll be paying a lot of attention to a lot of things in January. He stated that is the comment that he wanted to make. He stated that the only thing that he could add is that it is very lucky that he's not the Mayor elect because there would be a couple of people calling the unemployment office. Councilperson Welper noted that first of all, that was the first meeting with the two possible candidates. He stated there were three scheduled for the 9:00 a.m. meeting. He stated that had the two girls been turned around, the second girl only took 20 minutes with her answers, and the first girl's answers were much longer, that's why it went over. Councilperson Getty stated that a note could have been brought over to the Mayor's secretary. Councilperson Welper noted that Nancy had invited Councilperson Getty to join in the interview. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Getty, seconded by Welper that the meeting be adjourned at 8:12 a.m. Ayes: Four. Absent: Cole, Greenwood, Steve Schmitt. Motion carried.
