Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings scheduled for Monday, January 7, 2008 and the Organizational Meeting scheduled for Monday, January 7, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, January 7, 2008 and the following items were discussed. Don Temeyer, Community Planning and Development Director, discussed the development agreement with MAKO Waterloo Corporation to purchase the former Rath Administration building located at 1515 Sycamore Street. The agreement requires MAKO to have financing in placed by February 28, 2008. The city is required to remove asbestos from the building, but will not proceed with the removal until MAKO secures financing. MAKO is planning to invest $1.5 million immediately fixing the roof, windows, heating and cooling and the outside of the building. MAKO does not have a tenant interested in leasing the building at this time. Once MAKO fixes the building and meets the development agreement, the city will no longer be the owner and will have no control over the building. MAKO has six months to complete the renovations. Mayor Hurley reported the council's goals and objections have been completed by the UNI Institute of Decision Making, and he asking council to formally receive and file them. Don Temeyer, Community Planning and Development Director, reviewed change order No. 1 for a net increase of $16,28.77 for work completed by Enviromark for CMC Parcel No 2 Cleanup Project, Contract No. 725. The increase is due to accumulated amount of adjustments from original to final quantities. The city will ask the EPA to extend the grant. There is still lead in the ground, but it has been expensive to move since it had to be hauled to Peoria because of the hazardous waste. Mayor Hurley reviewed amendment #3 with Vision Iowa, H.W. Grout Trust and the City of Cedar Falls to allow each recipient to receive reimbursement after they have met conditions of their individual projects. This amendment allows each entity to receive compensation for expenses incurred so far and not have to wait until all aspects are completed. The City of Waterloo is still working on the US Bank property. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Getty, seconded by Cole that the meeting be adjourned at 8:14 a.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
