HomeMy WebLinkAbout03.06.2008 (1)• COUNCIL WORK SESSION March 6, 2008 8:00 a.m. Council Chambers Members present: Mayor Hurley, Cole, Getty, Hart, Greenwood, Steve Schmitt, Welper, Schmitt. Moved by Schmitt, seconded by Greenwood that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings scheduled for Monday, March 10, 2008. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, March 10, 2008, and the following items were discussed. Mayor Hurley noted that the consent agenda has a variance to the noise ordinance for the Waterloo Bucks to hold a Styx concert at Riverfront Stadium on August 30, 2008. Paul Huting, Leisure Services Director, reported that the concert will be on a Saturday, and that he spoke with Councilperson Getty since this is in his ward. Tom Jennings, Police Chief, noted that for concerts we usually use the dBA standard for industrial zones. This area includes residential and industrial zones. Mr. Huting noted that this concert probably will be no louder than concerts that have been held at Byrnes Park. Noel Anderson, City Planner, reported that A -Line EDS, Inc. business includes scrap metal salvaging and distribution transformers. A CEBA funding agreement with the Iowa Department of Economic Development is on the council agenda for a fogiveable loan in the amount of $45,000.00 for investment of over $1.2 million for their property located at 808 Dearborn Avenue. Noel Anderson, City Planner, reported that the amendment with MAKO Waterloo Corporation is to extend the due diligence period to March 24, 2008, which is about a 30 day extension for the restoration and rehabilitation of the Rath Administration Building located at 1515 Sycamore Street. Mayor Hurley noted that he moved the budget hearing to the end of the agenda to allow council to take care of the other items on the agenda prior to holding the budget hearing. Mayor Hurley stated that Michelle Weidner, Chief Financial Officer, will present an abbreviated version of the budget document at the opening of the hearing. The full document will be made available on the city's website or hardcopy. With no further business before the committee, it was moved by Welper, seconded by Cole that the meeting be adjourned at 8:10 a.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
