HomeMy WebLinkAbout10.02.2008COUNCIL WORK SESSION October 2, 2008 8:00 a.m. Council Chambers Members present: Mayor Hurley, Cole, Getty, Hart, Greenwood, Steve Schmitt, Welper, Reggie Schmitt. Moved by Reggie Schmitt, seconded by Steve Schmitt that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings scheduled for Monday, October 6, 2008. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, October 6, 2008, and the following items were discussed. Mayor Hurley noted that Earth Tech will provide a power point presentation on the Riverfront Renaissance Project at Monday's council meeting. Mayor Hurley noted that there are five hearings with bid openings for Monday, October 6, 2008. Mayor Hurley explained the agreement with Vandewalle & Associates at a cost of $60,000.00 for work on the downtown. Eric Thorson, City Engineer, explained the agreement with Earth Tech for the F.Y. 2009 Biennial Bridge Inspections. Councilperson Greenwood noted that after the June floods all the bridges were inspected, so why do we need to have these inspections. Mr. Thorson responded after the flood we did scourge inspection, and this inspection is required by the state. Earth Tech will also inspect the East Park Avenue bridge and look at the piers. Councilperson Getty inquired as to what is going on with the railroad bridge that was damaged by the flood. Eric Thorson, City Engineer, responded that Union Pacific owns the bridge, and they are working to obtain DNR permits to repair the railroad bridge. Once they have approval of the DNR, the railroad company will ask the city for approval of an access agreement. Mr. Thorson noted that it is his understanding that Union Pacific is going to use part of the damaged bridge for repairs. Councilperson Greenwood asked if the city will be including any lift stations in the CIP and how will we prioritize. Mayor Hurley responded there will be meetings with staff and council to brainstorm and come up with a priority list for the lift stations. With no further business before the committee, it was moved by Reggie Schmitt, seconded by Cole that the meeting be adjourned at 8:24 a.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
