HomeMy WebLinkAbout11.06.2008COUNCIL WORK SESSION November 6, 2008 8:00 a.m. Members present: Mayor Hurley, Getty, Hart, Steve Schmitt, Reggie Schmitt, Greenwood. Members absent: Cole, Welper. Moved by Reggie Schmitt, seconded by Steve Schmitt that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Four. Absent: Cole, Welper, Greenwood. Motion carried. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on Standing Committee agendas for meeting scheduled for Monday, November 10, 2008. Greenwood now present at 8:02 a.m. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the November 10, 2008 council agenda and the following items were discussed. Nancy Eckert, City Clerk, has put on the agenda a memorandum of understanding with Gallagher Benefits Services to provide costs and funding projects for the self -funded medical, prescription and dental. Councilperson Greenwood stated he would like to meet with the company that audits the prescription claims from Express Scripts as he feels there is overpricing, and he is sure he could save money. Ms. Eckert will schedule the meeting. Councilperson Getty asked about the detour for the utility hookup for the new Logan Middle School as there is a lot of traffic backing up. Eric Thorson, City Engineer, explained that this a School District project, with Invision Architects and Larsen Construction. Mr. Thorson noted that it is necessary to close both north and southbound US 63 during the utility work. Doug Carter, Fire Chief, noted that the Fire Department has been able to work around the detour using Broadway and 4th Streets. Councilperson Hart noted that traffic backs up when the train blocks Logan Avenue. Mr. Thorson stated that when the train blocks Broadway, the traffic on Burton is backed up. Mr. Thorson will review the project with Larsen Construction. Councilperson Steve Schmitt asked if there would be any way to have a truck embargo as it is hard for semis to turn onto 4`h Street. Mr. Thorson noted that the detour in place is the only logical route that trucks could maneuver. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Reggie Schmitt, seconded by Hart that the meeting be adjourned at 8:15 a.m. Ayes: Five. Absent: Cole, Welper. Motion carried.
