Gary Wheat, Executive Director of Convention & Visitors Bureau, reviewed the 2007-2008
hotel/motel tax grant recommendations from the allocation committee.
Kincaid now present at 4:34 p.m.
Mr. Wheat explained that 53 applications were received requesting $423,494.00, and only
$150,000.00 is available. Mr. Wheat explained the grant process and that their philosophy is to
look at the number of heads on beds an event will bring to the area.
Mr. Wheat reported the Wood Component people are moving their conference to be held in
Waterloo from October 2007 to October 2008, which nullifies their grant request for this year.
That will free up $1,000.00 for the FY08 awards.
Mr. Wheat explained the funds awarded for the Rotary Reserve expansion, and the booth and
carpet renovations for the National Cattle Congress. In addition, funding was approved for the
Waterloo Museum Coalition which is developing marketing plans for Waterloo and the Cedar
Valley. The GBPAC was formed to promote packages for the Gallagher -Blue Dorn Performing
Arts Center and the new sports facility, and they are working with Waterloo hotels.
An informal poll of the council showed that the majority present would like the $1,000.00 no
longer needed by Wood Component group to be granted to the Leisure Services Department to
be used for golf marketing.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Getty, seconded by Cole that the
meeting be adjourned at 4:48 a.m. Ayes: Five. Absent: Welper, Greenwood. Motion carried.
