Members present: Mayor Hurley, Kincaid, Welper, Gunderson, Greenwood, Getty, Cole,
Schmitt.
Moved by Schmitt, seconded by Kincaid that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes:
Three. Motion carried.
Steve Dust presented an overview of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance. Mr. Dust reviewed the
vision and mission of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance. The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance
includes: the Economic Development Committee, Chamber, WDC, CVTW, WIDA, Waterloo
and Cedar Falls Tourism, Waterloo and Cedar Falls Main Streets. The organization has a 25
member Executive Committee and a 42 member Board.
Mr. Dust explained the Five Year Campaign for Economic Vitality which includes the following
campaign elements: Business Expansion & Recruitment, Workforce Retention and Recruitment,
Branding the Cedar Valley, and Government Affairs "One Voice" for the Cedar Valley.
Discussion was heard on broadband fiber optic and the need to have a study completed to find
out what uses businesses have and use that a as a stepping stone for a greater broadband. The
Greater Cedar Valley Alliance will do a fundraiser to pay for the study as broadband
communication is a critical issue for economic development.
Councilperson Cole asked about the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance's role in facilitating inter -city
cooperation. Mr. Dust commented that the Alliance's goal always is to get governments to the
table to talk about issues affecting both communities.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Schmitt, seconded by Cole that the
meeting be adjourned at 5:27 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
