Members present: Mayor Hurley, Welper, Gunderson, Greenwood, Schmitt, Kincaid.
Members absent: Getty, Cole.
Moved by Schmitt, seconded by Greenwood that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes:
Four. Absent: Kincaid, Getty, Cole. Motion carried.
Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings scheduled for
Monday, August 20, 2007.
Kincaid now present at 8:03 a.m.
Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, August 20, 2007, and the
following items were discussed.
The beverages agreement with Pepsi -Americas is a one year extension on the agreement, with a
.75 cent increase on each 24 units and removal of the rent on all snack machines.
The application with the Iowa Department of Transportation for Traffic Safety grant for
improvements to Hammond and Easton Avenue and West 11th Street and Easton Avenue
intersections was reviewed. Sandie Greco, Superintendent of Traffic Operations, explained that
if awarded the funds would be used to upgrade from the school signals.
Mayor Hurley commented that he has numerous requests for the discretionary hotel/motel
funds and will make a recommendation to the council for Monday's meeting.
Councilperson Gunderson asked about the issue of constructing a trail head off East 18th Street
as part of the bike trail and asked for an update. Don Temeyer, Community Planning and
Development Director, responded that he will check on that and get back to the council.
Councilperson Welper noted that there were discussions of using representative from
Milwaukee as a resource for the downtown plan. Mayor Hurley explained that there is a
committee working on a way to involve Leisure Services, Cultural & Arts and the Ramada
management as there are concerns that when we have an event that we are ready.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Schmitt, seconded by Welper that
the meeting be adjourned at 8:15 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
