Members absent: Schmitt.
Moved by Kincaid, seconded by Greenwood that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes:
Six. Absent: Schmitt. Motion carried.
Councilperson Welper reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for meetings
scheduled for Monday, October 1, 2007.
Councilperson Welper reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, October 1, 2007, and
the following items were discussed.
Councilperson Getty stated that a petition will be presented to the council opposing vacating
Heath Street and the alley generally located within the block west of Heath Street from Donald
Street to Dale Street for expansion of Allen Hospital. The citizens at Mt. Carmel Housing and
Prairie Housing will all have to use Columbia Street. Louise and Columbia Streets will be the
only ingress and egress if this portion of Heath Street is closed. Don Temeyer, Community
Planning & Development Director, explained that Planning and Zoning is checking with all city
departments regarding the traffic in this area. Mr. Temeyer noted that vacation of Heath Street is
important to Allen Hospital's expansion.
Rudy Jones, Community Development Director, explained that they are requesting forgiveness
of demolition assessment of $141.00 for 922 Kern Street because it never should have been
assessed because the garage was demolished using CDBG funds.
Cammie Scully, Executive Director of Cultural & Arts Commission, explained the matching
funds necessary for the Community Foundation and Iowa Arts Council grant applications.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Gunderson, seconded by Cole that
the meeting be adjourned at 8:16 p.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Schmitt. Motion carried.
