COUNCIL WORK SESSION
February 6, 2006

Members present: Mayor Hurley, Welper, Gunderson, Greenwood, Getty, Cole, Schmitt.
Members absent: Kincaid.
Moved by Schmitt, seconded by Welper that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six.
Absent: Kincaid. Motion carried.
Gary Wheat, Director of Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau, reviewed the Convention &
Visitors Bureau's recommendation of allocation of 2006-2007 hotel/motel funds. Mr. Wheat
reported 36 applications were received requesting funding in the amount of $293,335.00 for the
$140,000.00 available. There were nine new applicants. One application was received after the
deadline.
Mr. Wheat explained the application process and the criteria used when awarding funds to the
applicants. The applications are reviewed by Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau staff, the
grant committee and the board.
The Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau Board consists of 15 members and 5 ex-officio
members. Five members are appointed by the city council, 5 members are appointed by the
Convention & Visitors Bureau and 5 members are appointed by the Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Wheat reviewed each request and the Convention & Visitors Bureau's recommendation for
each request.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Getty, seconded by Schmitt that the
meeting be adjourned at 5:22 p.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Kincaid. Motion carried.
