HomeMy WebLinkAbout03.30.2006COUNCIL WORK SESSION March 30, 2006 8:00 a.m. Council Chambers Members present: Mayor Hurley, Kincaid, Welper, Gunderson, Cole, Schmitt, Greenwood. Members absent: Getty. Moved by Schmitt, seconded by Kincaid that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Five. Absent: Getty, Greenwood. Motion carried. Greenwood now present at 8:02 a.m. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the Standing Committee agendas for Monday, April 3, 2006. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, April 3, 2006 and the following items were discussed: 1. The professional services agreement with Earth Tech for the US. Highway 63 Improvements Project. Earth Tech will perform an environmental assessment from Donald Street to U.S. Highway 218. The assessment will take about 18 months. The cost of the agreement is $1,617,500.00, which will be paid by a grant. 2. The application with the Governor's Office of Drug Control Policy for the FFY2006 Justice grant for $590,349.00, with city's portion of $319,843.00 and required match of $79,961.00. Police Chief Tom Jennings indicated that the amount received has been reduced over the years. 3. The 28E Agreement with Allamakee County to become a member of the Northeast Iowa Response Group. Mayor Hurley questioned why the agreement would need approval by the council. Councilperson Gunderson noted that the first Monday in July is a holiday and asked that the council meeting be canceled. There are five Mondays in July and the council will hold the fourth meeting on July 31. Councilperson Schmitt asked if the revisions to the burning ordinance are ready to be placed on the council agenda. Mayor Hurley responded proposed changes are ready for his review. Mayor Hurley updated the council on the Coalition Trip to Washington, DC. Mayor Hurley noted there are questions from the council concerning the purchasing policy concerning local preference, and he will set up a subcommittee to review the policy. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Gunderson, seconded by Greenwood that the meeting be adjourned at 8:16 a.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Getty. Motion carried.
