Moved by Schmitt, seconded by Cole that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six. Absent: Gunderson. Motion carried. Council met to discuss proposed changes to the curfew ordinance. Councilperson Cole stated she was 100 percent opposed to the proposed ordinance as many kids are going to college at 17 and graduate from high school at 17. She would like the ordinance to read 16 and younger. Councilperson Cole stated she feels the ordinance is heavy government intervention, and that we should not penalize the vast majority of parents/kids who behave. Tom Jennings, Police Chief, reported the current ordinance is difficult to enforce due to different times and ages. All the neighborhood associations want a better curfew law. Chief Jennings stated the Police Department needs an ordinance that is enforceable and not so confusing. Chief Jennings suggested one time and one age. Councilperson Welper stated he would go along with the proposed ordinance, but he believes it will be hard to enforce. Councilperson Kincaid stated he would like the time to be 11:00 p.m. Councilperson Schmitt stated he is hearing at the neighborhood associations that they would like an ordinance with one age and one time. Councilperson Greenwood noted that the curfew for his kids was midnight on the weekends and 10:30 p.m. during the week. Councilperson Getty stated he has no problem with the proposed ordinance. We need a specific time and age so when there are problems the Police Department has something to enforce. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Welper, seconded by Cole that the meeting be adjourned at 4:50 p.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Gunderson. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
