Council Chambers
Members present: Mayor Hurley, Kincaid, Welper, Gunderson, Greenwood, Getty, Cole,
Schmitt.
Moved by Schmitt, seconded by Kincaid that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes:
Seven. Motion carried.
Don Temeyer, Community Planning & Development Director, updated the council on the Expo
Project. This is a six block area from the Tech Works to the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention
Center. There would be outside exhibition tents to rent to exhibitors and it would provide
additional parking for Convention Center events. The area would include a public market for
local produce, meat and dairy products and other local goods for sale. The Waterloo Convention
& Visitor's Bureau is already looking at how to market the area.
Mr. Temeyer reviewed the area and the concept of the Expo Project. The total cost is estimated
at $4.1 million, and the city's contribution would be $1.2 million in acquisition of property.
The Community National Bank and Midwest One Bank will not be relocated as it was felt they
were a good co -use of the property. The Waterloo Development Corporation is committing $1.5
million per year for downtown development.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Schmitt, seconded by Gunderson
that the meeting be adjourned at 5:16 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
