Members absent: Getty. Moved by Schmitt, seconded by Kincaid that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six. Absent: Getty. Motion carried. Mayor Hurley reviewed the Standing Committees agendas for Monday, October 9, 2006. Mayor Hurley reviewed items on the council agenda for Monday, October 9, 2006 and the following items were discussed. 1. In relation to the development agreement with Cedar Valley Restoration and Development for property located at the intersection of East 8th and Sycamore Street, the CURA district was reviewed with Noel Anderson, City Planner. The city is looking at expanding the CURA to the west side of Ansborough Avenue and University Avenue. Mayor Hurley noted that the City of Des Moines made the entire corporate city limit a CURA district. Our city's emphasis is developing the lower income areas and to promote infill. 2. The agreement with Rich and Associates, Inc. to perform a downtown parking study. Sandie Greco, Superintendent of Traffic Operations, reported the study will include the need for parking meters, parking ramps, parking costs and new equipment. 3. The purchase of emergency generators for fire stations #1, #3, #4, #5, #6 and #8 was reviewed. Ned DeBerg, Fire Chief, reported only fire station #1 currently has an emergency generator, which is as old as the building. It would cost $55,000.00 to replace the generator at fire headquarters. With the grant the city would pay $53,000.00 and replace six generators. Chief DeBerg noted the city has already received one extension on the grant, but he will see if they will allow one more extension. Mayor Hurley commented that the council just approved purchase of the new aerial, which is more critical than the emergency generators. Chief DeBerg stated he put aside the cost for the generators in computing the Fire Department's funds available for the aerial. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Gunderson, seconded by Cole that the meeting be adjourned at 8:19 a.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Getty. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
