Eric Thorson, City Engineer, reviewed the cost to construct curb and guff
streets in the city. Using the Fairview Avenue information, the City Engine
prepared what typical assessments would be for property owners affected if cu
constructed on Fairview and the costs were assessed.
The following information was presented as to how many miles of seal coat
the city:
Urban streets without curb and gutter
Rural streets without curb and gutter
All seal coat without curb and gutter
Seal coat streets with curb and gutter
Total of all seal coat streets
45.1 miles
7.1 miles
52.2 miles
10.2 miles
62.4 miles
Using the estimate for Fairview Avenue as a guide, the estimated cost to
gutter on all existing urban seal coat streets is as follows:
Estimated cost /LF on Fairview Avenue = $176,982/1050 lineal ft.
= $168.55/lineal ft.
Total urban seal coat streets without curb and gutter
45.1 miles x 5,280 ft/mile = 238,128 ft.
238,128 feet x $168.55/LF = $40,136,474.00
or approximately $40 million
