HomeMy WebLinkAbout08.11.2005• COUNCIL WORK SESSION August 11, 2005 8:00 a.m. Council Chambers Members present: Mayor Hurley, Cole, Clark, Schmitt, Gunderson, Welper, Greenwood. Members absent: Kincaid Moved by Welper, seconded by Gunderson that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Five. Absent: Greenwood, Kincaid. Motion carried. Mayor Hurley reviewed the Standing Committee agendas for Monday, August 15, 2005. Greenwood now present at 8:02 a.m. Agenda items were discussed with department heads who have items on the August 15, 2005 council agenda. Items discussed included: 1. Byrnes Tennis Complex Renovation. The estimated cost of the project was $110,000.00. Aspro, Inc. was the only bidder with a bid of $149,578.00. The Leisure Services Commission has approved awarding the contract to Aspro and moving forward with the project. 2. Don Temeyer, Community Planning and Development Director, explained the Section 108 and Brownfield Economic Development Initiative for the former Chamberlain Manufacturing site, Rath Brownfield area and the downtown housing project. 3. Councilperson Welper asked about the work session scheduled for August 15 to discuss the city-wide cleanup project. Councilperson Welper asked where the city is at concerning a transfer station and could we put aside the money for the cleanup to start designating funds for a transfer station. Mayor Hurley commented when the city started receiving the annual grant from the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Commission a transfer station was one of the items that was suggested for the use of the funds. Tim Shea, Superintendent of Waste Management Services, reported last year $5,000.00 was spent on the city-wide cleanup. Mayor Hurley stated the transfer station is a policy decision for the council and needs to be further discussed. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Welper, seconded by Gunderson that the meeting be adjourned at 8:20 a.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Kincaid. Motion carried.
