COUNCIL WORK SESSION
July 22, 2004
8:00 a.m.
Council Chambers
Members present: Mayor Hurley, Cole, Clark, Schmitt, Gunderson, Welper.
Members absent: Kincaid, Greenwood.
Moved by Welper, seconded by Gunderson that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved.
Ayes: Five. Absent: Kincaid, Greenwood. Motion carried.
Mayor Hurley reviewed the Standing Committee agenda items for July 26, 2004.
Council Members reviewed items that have been placed on the council agenda of
Monday, July 26, 2004 with department heads who have items on the agenda.
Items discussed included:
1. Discussed the sale of alley to Dwayne Filers. There was, discussion that
some kind of guidelines and/or policy should be set up for the sale of
unbuildable land and how to dispose of it to residents who Want to buy it.
2. Discussed the Section 130 Project Request for installation of warning
signals/lights with overhead cantilever at the East Shauli0 Road Crossing
and warning signals/lights for the Mitchell Avenue Crossing. Eric
Thorson reported on the project explaining the state program for funds and
the City and Iowa Northern Railroad splitting the matching funds.
3. Noel Andersen reported on the redevelopment of Roosevelt Elementary
School and the request from the Historic Preservation to get it listed with
the National Register of Historic Places.
4. The Mayor discussed the $5,000 available from the Human Resources
Director's salary to be used for Mayor's Youth Initiative.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Welper, seconded by
Gunderson that the meeting be adjourned at 8:20 a.m. Ayes: Five. Absent: Kincaid,
Greenwood. Motion carried.
