HomeMy WebLinkAbout07.08.2004COUNCIL WORK SESSION July 8, 2004 8:00 a.m. Council Chambers Members present: Kincaid, Cole, Clark, Schmitt, Gunderson, Welper, Greenwood. Members absent: Gunderson. Moved by Welper, seconded by Kincaid that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Agenda items that have been placed on the council agenda of Monday, July 12, 2004 were reviewed with Department Heads who placed items on the agenda. Mayor Hurley reviewed the Standing Committee agendas for Monday, July 12, 2004. Items discussed included: 1. Extension of contact with Vanderwalle & Associates to provide professional services for implementation of Riverfront Renaissance Plan in downtown Waterloo at a cost not to exceed $5,000.00 per month. Vanderwalle will help with development of housing along the river between 6th and 11th Streets, and with relocation of businesses downtown. GO Bond funds will be used to pay for the services. 2. The ordinance to prohibit parking on the south side of the 100 block of Byrnes Drive from West 4th Street to Sunset Road. Its hard to get emergency vehicles through the street. 3. Councilperson Welper inquired on the International Property Maintenance Code. Mayor Hurley responded he should have an answer by the end of the month. Lou Cutwright is looking at adopting the code with the understanding we would not hire additional code enforcement officers. The city would focus on one area of the city at a time. 4. Mayor Hurley reported that an ordinance will be placed on the council agenda to restore parking for the owner of the East 4th Street Used Furniture Store. Parking would be restored on the furniture side of the street. 5. Discussed the fence requirement for salvage yards. Don Temeyer reported that the zoning requirement is 8 feet. They can stack cars two more above the fence as long as they are stacked away from the fence. With no further business before the committee, it was moved by Welper, seconded by Gunderson that the meeting be adjourned at 8:15 a.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
