Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Changing Lafayette and Sycamore Streets to two-way streets was reviewed Don Temeyer, Community Planning and Development Director, stated that changing one-way streets to two- way streets was recommended by Vanderwalle & Associates as part of the Downtown Master Plan. Mr. Temeyer stated that the one-way streets were designed to carry more traffic than they do now. The one-way streets used to serve traffic going to and from the fo er Rath Packing Co. at the east end and the John Deere Westfield Avenue site near the west nd. Commercial and Jefferson Streets through the downtown were also one-way streets until th mid-1980s when they were switched to two-way traffic. There have been meetings with downtown property owners, and a majority of them support the two-way streets. Sandie Greco, Superintendent of Traffic Operations, reported that the chang4 includes adding traffic signal lights, changing signs, restriping the road and parking spaces and moving the parking meters. Lafayette Street will lose 31 parking spaces, Sycamore Street will lose 16 parking spaces, and one parking space will be added between Park Avenue and 4th Street. Parking will remain diagonal or parallel as it is now. Parking stalls are a little wider. Ms. Greco reported that an ordinance will be placed on next Monday's a enda which will remove the no parking on the southwest side of Lafayette Street from East 11 Street to East 7th Street and the southwest side of Sycamore Street from East 7th Street to East 11 Street. Traffic employees will change Lafayette from Mullan Avenue to East 11th Street to two-way traffic on Sunday, and Sycamore Street between East First Street to East 11th Street will be converted in two weeks. The work is being done on Sunday when the traf is is the lightest. Signs will be put up at each intersection on both sides of the street indicating two way traffic, keep right. Council members will vote on an ordinance on tonight's council agenda Which will change Lafayette Street and Sycamore Street to two-way streets. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Welper, seconded by Clark that the meeting be adjourned at 4:59 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
