HomeMy WebLinkAbout10.06.2003 (2)COUNCIL WORK SESSION October 6, 2003 4:15 p.m. Council Chambers Mayor Pro Tem Getty called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. Members present: Kincaid, Welper, Greenwood, Clark, Jordan, Hurley, Getty. Moved by Welper, seconded by Jordan that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Eric Thorson, City Engineer, updated the council on the 18th Street Bridge Replacement Project. Mr. Thorson reported that they have been working with the citizens committee and are moving on the final design of the project. Doug Schindel, from Earth Tech, Inc., reported that the final citizens committee meeting was held on September 4, 2003. Mr. Schindel stated that the project will be let by the IDOT on July 27, 2004 with construction to begin in March 2004. It is anticipated that the project will be substantially completed by December 04 and final project completion in Spring 05. Mr. Schindel reviewed the $6.62 million cost for the project, with the following funding: RISE Bridge Repair Funds STP Funds Local City Funds $2.1 million $1 million $1.718 million $1.2 million Mr. Schindel reviewed the project limit and approach. The bridge will be two lane with a recreational trail on the downstream side. At Highway 218, there will be a dedicated left turn lane onto 18th Street. A sidewalk will be constructed on opposite side of the street from the recreational trail. Mr. Schindel reviewed the bridge enhancements which include Rath emblems, under deck lighting, trail lighting, decorative lighting throughout the corridor and banners. The beam will be stained earth color. Mr. Schindel reported the project will be bid with two alternatives. One alternative will be a Rath complex and the other alternative will be streetscaping. Mr. Thorson stated that the gas station property will need to be acquired by the city. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Clark, seconded by Kincaid that the meeting be adjourned at 4:45 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
