Mayor Rooff stated that the purpose of the meeting was to review the list of organizations to receive Hotel/Motel funds. Krizek now present at 4:31 p.m. Martha Place, Executive Director of Main Street Waterloo, reported that the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau adopted a new application form for organizations to use to apply for hotel/motel funds. A subcommittee of board members and city council members reviewed the former application, and it was decided to do away with the bricks and mortar application and not fund items such as capital improvements. The maximum amount an organization could receive was $7,500.00. Ms. Place reported that the committee reviewed 18 applications from 14 organizations, and each application was scored by points. After each application was reviewed and awarded an amount, the total amount was $101,532.00. In order to stay within the $100,000.00 amount allocated, each application was reduced by 11/2 percent. Ms. Place stated that some organizations submitted applications for more than one event. Ms. Place reported that the city received $698,000.00 in hotel/motel tax funds last fiscal year, and the Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau's total share was $349,002.96. In addition to the base amount of $250,000.00 of hotel/motel tax revenue allocated to the Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau, they receive 50 percent of any additional revenues collected over $500,000.00, and they are again requesting that 50 percent. Ms. Place noted that the top priority of the Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau is bringing in visitors. Mayor Rooff stated that he has spoken to the owner of the Holiday Inn, and they have said money was available to keep it clean and market the convention center and hotel. Councilperson Anders stated that he would like the council to contribute their hotel/motel discretionary funds so that all organizations will receive the amount approved and not reduce those amount by 11/2 percent. Moved by Anders, seconded by Murphy that the council's discretionary hotel/motel funds be used for the 11/2 percent shortage so that organizations will receive amount approved. Ayes: Seven.
