Moved by Jordan, seconded by Murphy that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six. Absent: Krizek. Motion carried. The request of the Superintendent of Waste Management Services for authorization to begin the process for Waste Services Technician was reviewed. Tim Shea, Superintendent of Waste Management Services, stated that as part of combining the Water Pollution/Flood Control and Sanitation Departments, he would like to create the position of Waste Services Technician. The new position will be utilized as a labor pool within the Waste Management Services Department and assigned a variety of duties, including filling in on assigned sanitation routes and pick-up of solid waste and recycling at city sites. Councilperson Jordan stated that he feels the reorganization is a good idea and asked if the city would be cutting any service. Mr. Shea responded that he feels this will improve services. Councilperson Jordan commended Mr. Shea and Cheryl Huddleston, Personnel Analyst, for their work on the reorganization plan and for being conscientious of current employees. Krizek now present at 4:33 p.m. Councilperson Anders asked what would happen to the current Solid Waste Operators. Mr. Shea reported that five of the 12 active employees in the Solid Waste Operators job classification would continue in their current position. The remaining seven employees currently classified as Solid Waste Operators will be allowed to bump back to another classification if they have seniority to do so, accept a layoff or go through the civil service process for one of the five positions in the new classification of Waste Services Technician. Mr. Shea stated that the new job classification for Waste Services Technician will be reviewed by the Civil Service Commission later this week. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Gronen that the Superintendent of Waste Management Services be authorized to begin the Civil Service process for Waste Services Technician. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Jordan, seconded by Berry that the meeting be adjourned at 4:37 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
