COUNCIL WORK SESSION
February 14, 2000

Council Chambers
Members present: Mayor Rooff, Anders, Krizek, Murphy, Gronen, Getty, Berry.
Members absent: Jordan.
Moved by Murphy, seconded by Krizek that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six.
Absent: Jordan. Motion carried.
Cammie Scully, Director of Cultural & Arts Commission, reviewed the Museum's upcoming trip
to Haiti. Ms. Scully reported that Kent Shankle and her are planning a trip to Haiti on April 1-
16, 2000. The trip is necessary to complete International Partnerships among museums project
for which the Center receives a federal grant. The project includes organizing a series of exhibits
in partnership with the Haitian Museum. They will be visiting with new artists and seeking
documentation for the permanent collection in Port Au Prince, Jacmel, and Cap Haitien. While
they are on the trip they will purchase ceremonial flags for the collection, purchase for the
Museum Shop for resale, purchase art for City Hall, purchase additional materials for
educational trunks used by the schools, and meet with documentary photographer who will be
exhibiting in a future exhibition and who will assist in planning next year's Junior Art Gallery.
The total cost for the trip is $7,100.00 which will be funded by Community Foundation Fund.
Ms. Scully stated that the Museum would like to go to Haiti every other year.
It was moved by Anders, seconded by Berry to endorse the trip to continue our relationship with
Haiti and to forward the travel request for formal council approval. Ayes: Six. Absent: Jordan.
Motion carried.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Anders, seconded by Murphy that
the meeting be adjourned at 5:31 p.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Jordan. Motion carried.
