ORDINANCE COMMITTEE
May 1, 2000

Council Chambers
Members present: Mayor Rooff, Getty, Anders, Jordan, Krizek, Murphy, Gronen, Berry.
Moved by Jordan, seconded by Gronen that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes:
Seven. Motion carried.
Walter Reed, Executive Director of Human Rights, reviewed an amendment to Chapter 20,
Waterloo Human Rights Commission, of the Code of Ordinances. The amendment replaces
Section 20-9, Unfair or Discriminatory Practices. The new section incorporates the Fair Housing
Interim Agreement with HUD, as approved by the City Council on February 7, 2000. Once the
city council adopts the ordinance, the city would become eligible to apply for Fair Housing
Assistance Program funding.
Mr. Reed reported that the Human Rights Commission currently has less than 50 open cases, and
that the Commission's goal is to have 15 to 20 cases per specialists.
With no further business before the committee, it was moved by Jordan, seconded by Murphy
that the meeting be adjourned at 5:12 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
Nancy Eckert
