Moved by Krizek, seconded by Gronen that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Martha Place, Executive Director of the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau, presented a copy of the 2000-2001 Budget. Ms. Place stated that the Convention and Visitors Bureau had a good year. The Bureau is entering into the new fiscal year with a carry-over of approximately $55,000. The overage is because the Bureau lost two staff members and was without an executive director most of the fiscal year. Ms. Place commented that the Bureau continues to promote Waterloo with events such as the Women's Bowling Tournament, Waterloo and Iowa Openings and the Two -Cylinder Club Exhibition. Ms. Place stated that she feels the Bureau needs to work with everyone, including the Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Waterloo. Ms. Place commented that she hopes that someday the Waterloo Bureau will join with the Cedar Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau. Ms. Place reported that the Bureau receives $250,000 of the first $500,000 of hotel/motel tax revenues collected. After the $500,000 cap is met, the Bureau can apply for half of any excesses collected. The 2000-2001 tax revenues total $698,005.93, which is an 8 percent increase over last year. Ms. Place stated that the Bureau is asking for $76,655, which is one-half of the 4`" quarter hotel/motel revenues over $500,000. Councilperson Getty stated that he would like to look at the 50/50 agreement regarding revenue over $500,000. Councilperson Getty stated he would like to continue allocating $250,000 of the first $500,000 to the Bureau, but next year he would like to look at the city keeping all the excess over $500,000. Councilperson Getty stated that the city is looking at projects such as the Cedar River Dam and the Band Shell. Mayor Rooff stated that the Bureau will be partnering with the downtown development plan. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Krizek, seconded by Getty that the meeting be adjourned at 4:59 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
