HomeMy WebLinkAbout09.18.2000• • COUNCIL WORK SESSION September 18, 2000 4:30 p.m. Council Chambers Members present: Mayor Rooff, Anders, Jordan, Krizek, Murphy, Gronen, Getty, Berry. Moved by Gronen, seconded by Berry that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Don Temeyer, City Planner, reviewed the Consolidated Urban Revitalization Area (CURA) and additional areas that could be added to the Plan. Mr. Temeyer stated that staff has looked at areas that have vacant, dilapidated or deteriorated property. Mr. Temeyer stated that they are looking at adding the Cloverdale/Greenbrier area to the CURA. In answer to a questions, Mr. Temeyer stated that the Newell, Martin Luther King residential area is already in the CURA. Mr. Temeyer stated that the tax abatement is on added value only, and citizens can choose to have the tax abatement for 3 years at 100 percent or a ten year abatement on a reduced schedule. Mr. Temeyer reported that citizens have submitted improvements in the CURA totaling $5,865,737.00, and that the County Assessor makes the final determination as to whether the improvement has added value to the property. A citizen currently living in City View asked the council to add the Cloverdale area to the CURA. She stated that the home she currently resides is small, and it will cost the same to renovate it as it will cost to build a new home. She stated that she has found a lot on the corner of Cloverdale and Fairchild and would like the council to include that area in the CURA. Mayor Rooff stated that he would like the council to tour the housing in the city and also look at the area being considered for addition to the CURA. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Gronen, seconded by Getty that the meeting be adjourned at 4:59 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
