Jim Rodemeyer, Personnel Director, updated council members on the Accident Review
Committee. Mr. Rodemeyer reviewed a chart containing information from 1997 through August
2000. The chart shows the number of accidents, whether the accident was preventable or non -
preventable and if disciplinary action was necessary as a result of the accident. Mr. Rodemeyer
stated that although the chart shows an increase in the number of accidents, he believes the
committee is more thorough than when it first started in 1997, and it also looks at damage to
equipment. Mr. Rodemeyer reviewed a chart showing the number of accidents by department and
whether the accident was preventable or non -preventable. Mr. Rodemeyer stated that he thinks
employees are more aware that an accident will be reviewed by the committee, and if necessary
disciplinary action will be taken. Mr. Rodemeyer stated that all accidents are reviewed, even if
there is zero dollar damage. Committee members represent the larger departments, including the
Personnel Director, City Clerk, and representatives from Police, Fire Rescue, and Central Garage.
Mr. Rodemyer stated that the committee looks at each accident on a case -by case basis and takes
into account weather conditions and emergency calls.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by Murphy, seconded by Jordan that
the meeting be adjourned at 4:28 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
