HomeMy WebLinkAbout10.05.2000• • COUNCIL WORK SESSION October 5, 2000 9:00 a.m. Council Chambers Members present: Mayor Rooff, Anders, Jordan, Krizek, Gronen, Getty, Berry. Members absent: Murphy. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Getty that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six. Absent: Murphy. Motion carried. The Downtown Redevelopment Master Plan was reviewed. The Master Plan includes the foliowing eleven specific projects: 1. The Exposition Center will be located south of the Public Library and will contain approximately 100,000 square feet. Offices and restaurants will be located around the center. 2. The Cedar River Mall will be located north of the Exposition Center, west of the bank and east of the Cultural and Arts Center. 3. Wellness/Recreation/Sports Arena will be located west of the Exposition Center. 4. Downtown Destination Marketing and Wayfinding. 5. Downtown Gateway, located north of the highway, is an effort to enhance the aesthetics and the redevelopment potential of the area. 6. Downtown Streetcar Transit Link will help alleviate the parking problem. 7. Black Hawk Community Education and Conference Center. 8. Waterloo -Cedar Falls Intermodal Transportation Center. 9. Highway System Improvements will reestablish U.S. Highway 63 into a two-way street on the existing northern right of way. 10. Downtown Pedestrian & Bicycle Path. 11. Downtown Riverfront Housing & Neighborhood Infill Mayor Rooff stated that jobs, education, housing, livability standards and the airport are included in our Millennium Plan. The city will apply for Vision Iowa funding in the amount of $75 million, which will require a 50/50 match. Mayor Rooff stated that in order to make the plan work we will need Vision Iowa funding and support of the citizens. The plan is on the October 9, 2000 council agenda. Once the plan is approved by the council, it will be presented to Black Hawk County, the City of Cedar Falls and federal and state legislators. The University of Northern Iowa has allocated two staff members to work on the plan. Items that are on the council agenda of Monday, October 9, 2000, were discussed with Department Heads who have items on the agenda. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Getty, seconded by Berry that the meeting be adjourned at 9:55 a.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Murphy. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
