August 23, 2017

Veterans Memorial Hall
Members present: Craig White in the Chair, Randall Miller (arrived at 5:14 p.m.), Richard
Hastings, Scott McDonald, Marcia Courbat, Don Ticknor, Mel Wittwer, Marilyn Robinson, Jim
Petersen, Jim Lentfer.
Members absent: Mike Mrzlak, and John Mrzlak(A).
Also in Attendance: Nancy Higby, Administrative Secretary.
Moved by Ticknor, seconded by Petersen, that the Agenda be approved. Ayes: Ten. Motion
carried.
Moved by McDonald, seconded by Wittwer that the Minutes of July 26, 2017, be approved as
amended. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried.
Citizens Oral Comments
Richard Hurtado provided several quotes for the repair of the front steps at Memorial Hall.
Nancy Higby, Administrative Secretary, was asked to forward these on to the City's Building
Department for review and decision to move forward.
Treasurer's Report
Marcia Courbat provided the Treasurer's Report. As of August 23, 2017, the opening Brick
Fund total was $12,488.63. July and August brick sales were $200 and $50 respectively, and the
cost of engraving for the month was $275. The ending Brick Fund balance was $12,463.63.
Chairperson's Report
CraigWhite noted that all Honor Flights for 2017 are sold out. He also explained the need for

volunteers to stand watch at the 45 hour vigil, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on September 29th, through
Noon on October 1, 2017. A meeting is scheduled for August 30th (updated by Craig White to
September 6th) at 5:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall, where a sign-up sheet will be available.
Committee Reports
Building, Grounds & Operations
Dick Hastings explained that the curb near the garbage dumpster on Cedar Street has temporary
been marked with red spray paint to identify where cars should avoid parking. He explained that
he still intends to check with the City about having a more permanent color designated.
Mr. Hastings shared that he has been corresponding with a retired Chicago attorney who may
wish to donate items for display at Memorial Hall.
A brief discussion took place regarding the need to completely drain and clean the fountain.
Education/Historical
Randy Miller commented that he continues to work on the bricks, and also shared that a group
will be visiting Memorial Hall on September 19th
Finance/Fundraising
Marcia Courbat shared the difficulties she has encountered in qualifying for grant monies.
