Veterans Memorial Hall
Members present: Craig White in the Chair, Randall Miller, Richard Hastings, Don Ticknor,
Marilyn Robinson, Jim Petersen, Mike Mrzlak, Jim Lentfer, John Mrzlak (A) and Mel Wittwer
(arrived at 5:02pm).
Members absent: Scott McDonald, Marcia Courbat, and Chad Hill (A).
Also in Attendance: Nancy Higby, Administrative Secretary.
Moved by Miller, seconded by Petersen, that the Agenda be approved. Ayes: Nine. Motion
carried.
Moved by Ticknor, seconded by Mrzlak that the Minutes of June 26, 2017, be approved. Ayes:
Nine. Motion carried.
Citizens Oral Comments
Richard Hurtado explained he has an estimate of$3,500 to replace the front rails and steps.
Randy Miller commented that the railing should be detachable to allow for the transfer of large
items through the front doors.
Treasurer's Report
Marcia Courbat was absent.
Nancy Higby, Administrative Secretary, read the Treasurer's report. As of July 26, 2017, the
Brick Fund total is $154,750. An additional $200 was received for the sale of 4 additional
bricks. The Mayor's Flag Fund ending balance is $268.16, following the Memorial Day
Program at a cost of$265.
Nancy presented an invoice from Black Hawk Memorial in the amount of$275 for the engraving
of eleven bricks.
Moved by Mrzlak, seconded by Hastings, that the invoice for $275 from Black Hawk Memorial,
be approved. Ayes: Nine. Motion carried.
Chairperson's Report
Craig White explained that all seats on both the September and October Honor Flights are now
full. Any new applications will be for next year's flights.
Richard Hurtado commented that a dance will be held at the Electric Park Ballroom on
September 23, 2017. He suggested the venue may be a good opportunity to promote and
publicize the upcoming Honor Flights. Cost for admission is $10.

Building, Grounds & Operations
Dick Hastings commented briefly on the ongoing parking concern on Cedar Street, and that he
will explore the possibility of having the curbs painted yellow.
Education/Historical
Randall Miller commented that a reunion will take place at Memorial Hall on September 19,
2017, and that several new bricks have been placed.

Artifacts Preservation
Mel Wittwer explained that the display of WWI and WW II artifacts is complete.
Richard Hurtado suggested putting together a complete list of electrical and lighting needs, then
inviting electricians to Memorial Hall for a walk through for the purpose of obtaining an accurate
quote.
Dick Hastings reminded the commission that there is heavy glass available for additional
shelving; and that it just needs to be measured and cut.
Unfinished Business
Randy Miller commented that most of the flags have been removed from downtown, with a
suggestion to put them back up on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
New Business
None.
With no further business before the commission, it was moved by J. Mrzlak, seconded by
Hastings that the meeting be adjourned at 5:26 p.m. Ayes:Nine. Motion carried.
