An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer MEMORIAL HALL COMMISSION October, 26, 2016 5:00 p.m. Veterans Memorial Hall Members present: Craig White, Randall Miller, Richard Hastings, Scott McDonald, Marcia Courbat, Don Ticknor, Mel Wittwer, John Mrzlak (A) and James Lentfer (A). Members absent: Marilyn Robinson Ron McMahon, Mike Mrzlak, Ron Nielsen, and Chad Hill (A). Also in Attendance: Kelley Felchle, City Clerk. Moved by Miller, seconded by J. Mrzlak, that the Agenda be approved. Ayes: Eight. Motion carried. Moved by Miller, seconded by J. Mrzlak that the Minutes of September 28, 2016, be approved. Ayes: Eight. Motion carried. Citizens Oral Comments None. Treasurer's Report Marcia Courbat, gave the Treasurer's Report for October. Six bricks were sold this month at $250.00 bringing the total of bricks sold to 3038. After the engraving of 14 bricks and reimbursement for safe repair, the brick fund is at $11,980.78. Ms. Courbat presented a bill from Black Hawk Memorial in the amount of $125 for the engraving of 5 bricks. Marcia did state that the bricks were not yet completed. Motion was made by Miller, seconded by Ticknor, to pay the invoice in the amount of$125 to Black Hawk Memorial for the engraving of 5 bricks. Ayes. Eight. Motion carried. Chairperson's Report Craig White, Chairperson, reported that he picked up door prizes from Fahr Beverage. He explained that he approached the Veterans Affairs Director in Clarion, IA, about collaborating with them on honor flights. Committee Reports Building, Grounds & Operations Richard Hastings, Building, Grounds & Operations Chairperson, reported that he consulted with UNI regarding electric lighting in display cabinets and intends to consult with the Grout Museum as well. Education/Historical Randy Miller, Education/Historical Chairperson, reported that the Veterans Walk-A-Thon would be held on November 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. and pass by the Vietnam Memorial. Mr. Miller reported that new flagpoles would be put up in ten locations. He further reported that he needed volunteers to help put up flags for Veterans Day. Volunteers would meet at Memorial Hall at 10:00 a.m. on November 4th to put up flags and tear down would be November 12th at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Miller reported that he asked Kevin Dill of Black Hawk County Veterans Association to speak at the Veterans Day program at Memorial Hall at 10:15 a.m. on November 11, 2016. October 26, 2016 Page 2 Page 2 Finance/Fundraising Marcia Courbat reported that Veridian Credit Union needs an example of the costs associated with assembling the tour booklet in order to complete the grant application. Mrs. Courbat reported that a tour for 30 women has been booked for January. Artifacts Preservation Mel Wittwer reported that artifacts stored in the office need to be organized to discern what should be thrown out or kept. Then, the value of those kept needs to be ascertained and inventoried. Marcia Courbat recommended starting the project in March. Unfinished Business Craig White requested that a letter be sent to UAW Veterans Committee to see if they are still interested in sending a member of their organization to be part of Memorial Hall. New Business None. With no further business before the commission, it was moved by Ticknor, seconded by Wittwer that the meeting be adjourned at 5:33 p.m. Ayes: Eight. Motion carried.
